Three Queens Royal Rendezvous
The only New York call of Cunard’s Three Queens – Queen Elizabeth 2 (QE2), Queen Mary 2, and the new Queen Victoria - took place on Sunday, January 13th. The once-in-a-lifetime event included spectacular views of the Royal Rendezvous sail away with a fireworks display overlooking the majestic Statue of Liberty. The Queen Elizabeth 2, Cunard’s longest-serving ship, left Manhattan for its 26th and final voyage. This is the first time in Cunard’s 168-year history that three “Queens” have been in service at the same time, with QE2 retiring in November 2008; it was the only time they will operate together.
NYCruise Generates over $1 Billion
Cruise Lines International Association’s (CLIA) newly released Economic Impact Study revealed that the New York City cruise industry generated over $1 billion dollars in 2006 and was responsible for over 13,420 local jobs. More than one million passengers came through the City's cruise facilities this past year making New York the nation’s sixth busiest cruise port during 2006.
